Above: the Wazee with some extras: Axiom Rainrunner fenders, Axiom Streamliner Disc DLX rack, an Ortlieb Backroller pannier, and a mirror. Check out the customization form further below for more options.
Spot pretty much answered our prayers when they decided to make the Wazee. It’s a fast but well-grounded all-cromoly urban bike with Carbon Drive, an Alfine 11-speed internally geared hub, hydraulic disc brakes, Schwalbe tires, and mounting points for fenders, front and rear racks, and a dual kickstand.
A few basic facts
The Wazee comes in sizes 5, 52, 55, 57, and 60. Geometry and specs. Our customizations can include dynamo systems and many other variations. Our Portlandistan Wazee kits out the bike with all the best things that we like for serious urban riding.
Portlandistan edition: Alfine S501 dynamo hub (or the lighter, better Shutter Precision PL-8 for a bit more), B&M Lumotec IQ front light, B&M Toplight Line Plus with brake light, PDW Whiskey leather ergo grips or PDW Speed Metal grips, PDW brass bell, Axiom Streamliner Disc DLX rack (100 lb rating, yet lighter than most racks), Axiom Rainrunner Trekking fenders: $2775, or upgrade to the Shutter Precision dynamo hub for $2825. The price includes a discount on these bundled accessories as well as on the extensive labor required to build them in. Suggested upgrade: A Selle Anatomica or Brooks saddle.
Hyperbolistan edition: SON28 dyno hub, Supernova E3 Pro 2 front light, E3 Pro tail light, PDW Whiskey leather ergo grips, PDW King of Ding or Crane brass bell, Portland-made Sykes Wood Fenders (various wood and bamboo species) or Planet Bike Grasshopper bamboo fenders, and an Axiom Streamliner Disc DLX or PDW Payload bamboo-topped rack. $3165. The price includes a discount on these bundled accessories as well as on the extensive labor required to build them in. Suggested upgrade: A Selle Anatomica or Brooks saddle.
Anarchistan edition: This is sort of an a la carte option for people who eschew the rules we’ve carefully laid down about what is Portlandistan and what is Hyperbolistan. Granted, the borders can be shifty. The only rule you have to follow is you still have to pay with genuine Chinese-backed US dollars in digital or hard-copy form. The price will vary, obviously.
