The new 2016 Vaya Ti XO is now available. We have one that’s still unclaimed–it’s a 54cm and has a paint blemish, so it’s marked down to $3750.
Titanium rides like no other material and needs to be experienced to be understood. Salsa has changed the character of the Vaya in the Ti version, equipping it with Knard 41 mm cyclocross/gravel tires, a double instead of a triple crankset, HED Belgium rims, and a Belgian paint motif. The result is a 22.3 lb fast gravel bike that happens to be a great touring bike. List price is $4299.
Sprightlier than the mighty Surly Disc Trucker but still sturdy and stable enough for loaded touring. An excellent gravel/all-road adventure bike, though heavier than ideal for that. See the new Salsa Warbird (now in stock at the Tiagra and 105 levels) for gravel rocketry.
Portland’s own Russ Roca, one half of the duo at The Path Less Pedaled, rode 1000 miles on a Salsa Vaya, after which he had this to say: “The Vaya is a fun bike. It’s fun with a load and without. It’s fun on the road and on mixed terrain. It’s fun to ride leisurely and to hammer. It is one of the most versatile bikes on the marketplace right now. If you want a bike that is capable of loaded touring, but also doesn’t feel like you’re dragging an anchor around when you’re not on tour, then the Vaya is for you.” Read Russ’s full review of the Vaya.
Salsa describes the Vaya this way: “The Vaya is Salsa’s touring and road adventure bike, designed to handle any ‘road’ surface, from pavement, to gravel, to dirt. It’s known around the world as among the finest out-of-the-box touring bikes you can buy.
The Classico CroMoly tubeset provides excellent ride quality with or without a load. A full compliment of braze-on’s for fenders, racks, and lowriders makes the Vaya an extremely versatile machine, whether your intent is touring or general road or gravel exploration.”
Vaya 2: $1950. Sky Blue. 105 level.
Vaya 3: $1500. Kelly Green. The same frame and fork as the Vaya 2, but Sora-level drive components shave a ton off the price. An excellent, full-fledged tourer that’s also affordable.
Also available by special order is the titanium Vaya Travel, which is stainless steel featuring S&S couplers which makes traveling with this bike much easier. Framesets, custom builds, and complete stock bikes are available.
